cantaloupe?

We finally harvested and cut into the mystery melon. It was very fragrant but Evan told me that it tasted watery. I’m allergic to cantaloupes so I took his word on it. I suppose that it needed more time to ripen but the neighborhood creatures had started getting to it.

We are back in the school routine. I wish I could say we eased into it but it was more like lurching. Similar to my first, and only, attempts at driving stick shift. (Ask my sister, she was there.) We got to celebrate my brother’s wedding and see NYC with the kids. We returned from our trip just in time to get to school the next morning. We’ve covered books in brown grocery bags, packed lunches, rushed off to drop offs and pick ups. Little k contributed to class discussion by adding the rule “no spitting” to their class agreement. Hmm.

I’m breathing a small sigh of relief as I regain a few precious hours of “me time.” But fall ministry is in full swing and it’s keeping our house busy and filled with meetings. Beginnings can be exhausting but they are still exciting and full of anticipation. Ministry-wise, it feels as if we’re pushing through the last few miles of a marathon. E will begin a six month sabbatical in December. It is looking to be a fruitful time of rest, reflection and writing. But right now that seems far off. If you think of it, we’d appreciate prayer through this busy season and for the extra grace we need when we are at frazzled ends.
