The blog has been a bit garden-heavy but we may have solved a mystery. For a couple months, we thought we had lots of cucumber plants. It turned out that half of them were producing a strange round fruit. I decided to let it grow to see what we’d get. So far the largest fruit is larger than a softball but smaller than a volleyball. Yesterday, I had to thin the bed because of overcrowding. Owen found a small fruit and trowel-ed it to pieces. It looked and smelled like cucumber. Today, I harvested a larger fruit to see if we were growing oddly-shaped cucumbers. Looking at it, I think we’re growing a cantaloupe. Mystery solved? I guess we’ll see in a few weeks.
