September is around the corner

It sounds crazy but soon the kids will be starting a new school year. I’ve been looking at our calendar and that’s just what it feels like. The school year is beginning to wind down. Little k ends school early in June. Evan and O will finish school with just enough time for us to pack up for our mission trip to Sweden. (More on that later.) That trip is flanked by a few weddings that we’re looking forward to. Then we’ll hit August in time to prepare for the end of Project Destiny, Summer Teen Conference and my brother’s wedding. After that, school is back in session. See? September’s just around the corner.

Last summer, e went on a missions trip to Sweden. This year, he’s returning with myself and the kids for two weeks. It will be the first mission trip that our whole family will go on. Slowly, we’ve been preparing the kids: talking about the trip, learning about Scandinavia, praying for the people there. E and I are looking forward to having our kids experience what it’s like to serve others in another country.

Since the kids won’t have a formal program the first week, I’ll be doing some simple projects with them about missions and what is happening around the world. If you have any suggestions or resources, I’d love to hear about them. Meanwhile, e will be meeting with the local leaders and helping with their leadership development and vision casting. The second week, the mission team will be helping with a week long family retreat for the Chinese in Scandinavia. The kids will attend the children’s program and e will be the speaker for the young adult sessions. My role right now is undefined but I have I feeling I’ll be shuffling the kids around, worshiping and fellowshipping with the retreat attendees and squeezing in conversations with people. All the details have yet to be firmed up but we’re looking forward to see what God will do and what we’ll learn.

We’d appreciate prayer as we prepare for this trip in the midst of “normal” life. As we learn more and finalize details, we’ll share more formally and seek prayer support as we go. There’s much to do from now until we leave–get passports, assemble curriculum, prepare messages, pray, pack. If you get a chance to lift us up, we’d be very grateful.
