a little remorse

If you were curious, it appears that our mouse problem has been resolved–for now. Since the last post, I heard gnawing in the wall, skittering under the fridge and e saw one dash out from the radiator while in the bathroom. And then there was silence. I was in a state of paranoia so I couldn’t believe that it (or they) were gone.

Last week, pest control came for a quarterly inspection of the house. He and e found a mouse lying on the ground twitching in the basement. The pest control technician bagged it and, er, hit it against a cement wall, twice. I felt a little bad hearing about that. The tech also told us that the rat bait causes internal bleeding and makes the animal thirsty so that they go outside to look for water. Then I felt a bit more guilty.

I’m still not a fan of mice but I do feel a little remorse.

p.s. They also found a dead mole outside while walking the perimeter of the house. I didn’t know they were so little, just a bit bigger than a mouse. I think the words of the tech were, “How can something so small smell so bad?”

No, no, no! The dead mole was inside the house in a little used part of our basement. And it smelled pretty badly by the way.

But this is no reason for any of you to not visit us at our home!
