Enoch in Scandinavia? Please pray!

I’ve been considering going on another short term missions (STM) project for several years now. I want to be a more hands-on part of sharing the good news of Jesus to others. And I’d love my family and my church to grow with me in that desire.

This summer, I’m considering an invitation to preach in a Chinese summer camp in Scandinavia. My specific group will be the young adults. I’m told this younger generation of Chinese Scandinavians speak Swedish and English more than Chinese. They also appear to be struggling with intergenerational issues of race, culture, and the gospel as they grow up in the Chinese church there.

Would you please pray for wisdom and God’s help in making my decision? I admit I’m concerned how well my preaching (as an American with a peculiar style) will connect with Europeans, and Scandinavians in particular. I confess that concern stems from both a good desire to minister well, and probably also from a self-centered desire to not do poorly.

I’d appreciate your prayers for my and my family.

    hey enoch,

the scandinavian summer conference is one that’s been STM run for quite a while, and i’m sure you’ll relate fine to them. Normally they’re quite interested in Americans, not just as a novelty item, but just being able to interact with them is always a blessing.

A pastor friend of mine from the states has been involved with that missions in the past, if you want i can put you in touch with him.

Their English is good, and yeah they’ll be predominantly speaking English or Swedish. The issues they deal with of course are slightly different as the Scandinavian countries are very nearly socialist, which means the government provides a lot of their social care. It does mean a lot of them lack motivation or drive. But that’s a general arcing statement.

All of the second generation work here is difficult and slow going, so any work or sharing that can help bless or teach them will be beneficial.

Summer’s a beautiful time to go, it’ll be gorgeous, and there’s a lot of fantastic scandinavian design to take in whilst you’re there.

It’s also only a short hop to England.

    Bert
