Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day. That’s a strange greeting if you think about the purpose of the holiday. It’s like saying, “Happy remember-the-troops-fighting-sacrificing-and-some-dying day.” For the first year, we went to our city monument to veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I was surprised to see how many people from our small city fought in these wars. We took a few pictures that might give you a sense of the numbers.

We also took the kids to ride their bikes. No pictures of that unfortunately. Have you ever tried to simultaneously direct three small boys on wheeled vehicles? Later, we’ll bring out the grill for dinner in true American style.

Evan also helped me (a little) get some shots of items for turtlestar. It’s taken a while to photograph them. I’m working on a paper-based product today. By posting that, I hope to be motivated to get shots of them up by the end of the week.

In family news, I’m going to N. Cal for the weekend. Please note the “I” and not “we.” It’s family news because e will hold down the fort in my absence. I think he’s enlisting help…soon. I will miss them but am looking forward to some time away. I’m going for a wedding but have also planned to meet up with people, take time for personal reflection/evaluation and catch a craft fair. It’s a little ambitious, I know. Perhaps this will keep me from having a nervous breakdown because I am used to doing two or more things at a time while being interrupted every 5 minutes. I pray it will be a fruitful time for me and that the four boys (yes, four including e) at home will enjoy their weekend as well.

Hey, I’m in NorCal this weekend too! But I’m coming up Saturday night and running a race on Sunday. I”ll be leaving Monday morning. So I probably won’t get to see you.

Hmmm, yeah it sounds like I won’t get to see you. Funny how that worked out.

Nice bags… but when will Turtlestar offer a men’s line of accessories?

Steve, believe me, I’ve been thinking about a “men’s line.” The process is a little slower but I hope to put some guy-ish stuff out.
